Chilton: Vauxhall will be stronger

Tom Chilton believes that Vauxhall will get back to the front of the British Touring Car Championship field with a new car in 2007

The former champions will use the Vectra model next year having raced two forms of the Astra since 2001, and Chilton believes the new car will allow him to take his first win for the team.

"I'm looking forward to driving the Vectra because I believe we will be closer to the front than last year," Chilton said on the central stage at the Autosport International show.

"It's a great package. This car will have a better balance, it has improved aero, and it will be kinder to its tyres, which was a problem for us sometimes last year."

Chilton's teammate Fabrizio Giovanardi eventually took two wins in his maiden BTCC season last year after a slow start, and the Italian was able to score Vauxhall's 100th victory in the series at Knockhill.

"Vauxhall has gone past 100 wins now which is a great achievement, so hopefully I can get one myself this year," said Chilton.

"Last year I was in the lead for more than 80 miles of racing during the season but I didn't get a win, and that was very frustrating."
