Chilton leads all-Ford front row

Tom Chilton took his fourth British Touring Car Championship pole position of the year by heading an all-Ford front row at Donington Park

The Arena Motorsport driver lapped the circuit in 1m11.328s with 10 minutes of the session remaining, beating his team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole to the top spot by 0.081 seconds.

Honda's Gordon Shedden had set the early pace in a session that was red-flagged at the halfway point when Andy Neate spun his WSR BMW into the gravel at Redgate.

But when the action resumed Chilton wasted little time in going to the head of the timesheets in a time just over a tenth quicker than Shedden. He was followed over the line seconds later by Onslow-Cole, who was carrying 27kg of success ballast to Chilton's nine.

Despite a sprinkling of rain hitting the track, there was not enough moisture to affect qualifying and everyone spent the whole session on slick tyres.

Shedden shared the second row with championship leader Jason Plato, who was 0.2s off the pace in his Chevrolet.

Matt Neal (Honda) and Andrew Jordan (Eurotech Vauxhall) were next up while Paul O'Neill turned in another impressive performance to qualify seventh in his ageing Tech-Speed Honda.

Practice dramas forgotten, Rob Collard was the best of the BMW brigade in his WSR car while Tom Boardman's Special Tuning UK SEAT and Alex MacDowall's Chevrolet - the latter having its worst qualifying result since the season opener at Thruxton - completed the top 10.

Arthur Forster's session was cut short after 20 minutes due to a gearbox problem on his Forster BMW while Steven Kane's Motorbase version did not get out at all after the car failed to fire up following a post-practice gearbox change.
