Cecotto joins Masters race
Johnny Cecotto is the latest driver to sign up for the all-star British Touring Car Championship Masters race, which takes place on the final weekend of this year's series at Donington Park on September 26
Cecotto, a multiple motorcycle racing champion in the 1970s and a former team-mate of Ayrton Senna in Formula 1 in the early 1980s (with Toleman), competed in the BTCC for BMW in 1995.
Cecotto's name joins a list 15 other tin-top legends already confirmed for the event. Two other former F1 drivers, Gabriele Tarquini and Julian Bailey, no less than eight former BTCC champions including John Cleland and Frank Biela as well as double World Touring Car champion Paul Radisich are all entered.
"It's going to be great fun racing against some of the drivers on this grid," said the Venezuelan. "It's a charity race so I'm happy to take part and also come back to England and see some of my old friends.
"There's no driver I want to beat more than anyone else - I want to beat them all."
Former BTCC driver and BBC commentator Charlie Cox will join regular series anchorman Ben Edwards to cover the event live on Motors TV. The race will also be broadcast on ITV1's Speed Sunday the following week, October 3.
