BTCC to conduct turbo boost analysis during Oulton Park round

The British Touring Car Championship bosses will be conducting ongoing turbo boost analysis on the Subaru and Ford Focus cars throughout the meeting at Oulton Park this weekend

Usually, any turbo boost adjustments are made to cars after each three rounds, once data has been analysed by BTCC technical bosses.

However, after the third meeting of the season at Thruxton at the beginning of May, series heads have declared that they had become aware of an "anomaly regarding the power delivery" of the Ford EcoBoost and Subaru motors.

Both engines are developed and built by Mountune.

Ash Sutton is the leading Subaru driver with two podiums so far this season in his Levorg machine, but team-mate Jason Plato has only achieved four points and the sister cars of Josh Price and James Cole have yet to register a mark.

The leading runner with an EcoBoost Ford engine is Josh Cook in the Maximum Motorsport Ford Focus. He is 13th in the standings.

Motorbase driver Mat Jackson is 14th in the points table, team-mate Depper has just one point and rookie Luke Davenport has none.

Stephen Jelley, in the Team Parker Racing Focus, has also yet to score.

Technical chiefs will monitor and assess the engine performance data of the Subarus and Fords across the meeting and can make alterations - particularly throughout both free practices sessions - with only 30 minutes' notice.

Series director Alan Gow said that the move would not set a pattern for further alterations across the board.

He said: "This is not to be viewed as a precedence - it's merely TOCA undertaking an entirely systematic approach to more quickly and accurately assist those two particular engines overcome an existing known anomaly which no other engines in the championship suffer from."
