Brands Hatch BTCC: Andrew Jordan fastest in practice

Andrew Jordan topped the free practice sessions at the first British Touring Car meeting of 2013 at Brands Hatch

The reigning Independents champion (Eurotech Honda) was third fastest in the first session, behind pacesetter Jason Plato (factory MG) and the works Honda Civic of 2012 champion Gordon Shedden.

Shedden set the pace early in the second session, his 48.386s effort usurping Plato's earlier 48.510s. It was also a tenth faster than last year's pole.

Several drivers improved in the last moments of the session, with Jordan going fastest by just 0.003s to follow up his fastest time from the pre-season test at Donington Park.

Plato required a diff change during the second session, but his earlier effort remained good enough for third.

Triple champion Matt Neal was another to improve late on to go fourth overall, while Eurotech's Jeff Smith ominously made it four NGTC Civics in the top five.

Returning 2009 champion Colin Turkington underlined the potential of WSR's new NGTC BMW by going equal sixth fastest with the Ciceley Racing Toyota of Adam Morgan, 0.6s slower than Jordan.

The new Team Hard-built Volkswagen Passat CC of Tom Onslow-Cole was completed just in time for the meeting and the former race winner was 25th fastest in the second session.

Fastest among the S2000 competitors for the Jack Sears Trophy was Lea Wood.

BTCC rookie Joe Girling (Chevrolet Cruze) was fastest S2000 in session one, but was usurped by Wood's Vauxhall Vectra, the AmD Golf of James Kaye and Liam Griffin (Motorbase Ford Focus) in the afternoon.
