Boss Gow predicts boom

Speaking at the AUTOSPORT International show in Birmingham, Gow predicted that the level of interest in the BTCC will increase to levels approaching its mid-'90s heyday.

"We have a three-year plan and you'll see the BTCC increase its profile," said Gow. "We have the knowledge of Super Touring to draw from, and you could say we are much better off than when we started in 1992. Within two years you will see double the manufacturers that you saw last year.

"We are in a position to present manufacturers with an attractive programme. The cost of racing in the BTCC is one third of what it used to be, so if they liked it before, they'll love it now."

Gow also welcomed the purchase of the Brands Hatch group of circuits by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision concern.

"This helps our plans," he said. "The previous owner was on an exit strategy throughout last year. But Jonathan and his consortium will spend money of circuits and race meetings. It's great news for the BTCC and motorsport in general."
