Adam Morgan keeps WSR drivers at bay for Brands BTCC race three win
Adam Morgan won the final British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Brands Hatch after a tense dash for the flag in the 27-lap race
Morgan, who drives a Ciceley Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class, tracked reverse-grid polesitter Sam Tordoff (WSR BMW 125i M Sport) over the opening lap, but got a better exit from Clearways at the end of the tour to pull alongside the rear-wheel-drive car and claim the lead.
The soft-tyred A-Class came under attack in the latter part of the race as Tordoff and his WSR team-mate Jack Goff were glued to the Mercedes' bootlid, but Morgan held firm to open his account or the season.
Behind the top three, there was disaster for the points leader going into the race, reigning champion Gordon Shedden.
After winning race two, he was saddled with a full load of 75kg of success ballast and was running in 11th place when he picked up a puncture on his front-left soft tyre and slid into the wall.
Shedden's team-mate Matt Neal had established himself in fourth place on the soft tyres, but lost out in a dash to the line when Andrew Jordan's Motorbase Performance Ford Focus snatched the place by 0.03s.
Rob Collard climbed through the pack from 16th to just hold on to sixth place for WSR. He was under pressure from the Eurotech Racing Honda Civic of Jeff Smith, but held on to the position by just 0.003 seconds.
Aron Smith, Aiden Moffat and Ash Sutton, who had stalled on the line, rounded out the top 10.
Colin Turkington was the leading factory Team BMR Subaru in 12th place.
