Former British Touring Car champion Robb Gravett is weighing up a full-time return to the series this year.
The Briton, who beat Frank Sytner and Andy Rouse to the 1990 BTCC crown, says he is in consultation with a "frontrunning" team about a 2014 entry.
He said the return of other previous champions, allied to the switch to NGTC regulations, awoke his interest in a potential comeback.
"Nothing is confirmed, but I have been courted and I'm considering it," Gravett told AUTOSPORT.
"I haven't wanted to return before, but now I do. I think the new regulations create much more excitement, turbos are back, and there are so many ex-champions it would be nice to add one more.
"My only stipulation was that I don't want to just be running around and making up the numbers, but it's with a frontrunning team.
"I don't think I'll have problems either; I haven't let my fitness slip, and I drive every day as part of my work [with driver training company Ultimate Car Control].
"We work with drivers all the time, so I know where I stand."
Gravett said he expects to make a decision "within a week or so," adding: "I went down to Brands Hatch a few weeks ago and spoke to some people with no real agenda, but by the time I left there was one.
"I'm excited about the opportunity - it's a strong possibility."
There are just two seats still unconfirmed for this year's BTCC campaign.
