British Touring Car race winner Aron Smith tested Motorbase's NGTC Ford Focus for the first time this week and hopes to race it in 2013.
The 22-year-old finished eighth in his first season of BTCC racing this year and scored a victory in Motorbase's S2000 Focus.
Smith is now hoping to join Mat Jackson in the squad's NGTC line-up for 2013 and had his first taste of the new Focus, which made its debut at Snetterton in August, at Brands Hatch on Tuesday.
"As soon as I got into the NGTC I could immediately feel the difference from the S2000," said Smith, who was set to have another test today.
"It's got so much more grip and, as good as the car is in its current set up, you can tell that it's still only running at about 70 per cent of what it's capable of.
"Even in just the 10 or 12 laps I got in around Brands I loved being in it. You can just sense that the car has potential to be unbelievably good."
The Irishman believes the car can take on the likes of Honda and MG at the front of the field next season.
"I have no doubt that with some more testing and development over the winter, the Motorbase NGTC has the potential to beat the Hondas and MGs and win the championship, and I'm working very hard to secure a deal to be in it!" he added.
