Volkswagen Racing Cup frontrunner Howard Fuller will make his British Touring Car Championship debut in Tony Gilham Racing's Honda Civic at Rockingham later this month.
Former single-seater racer Fuller won for Gilham's squad at the Rockingham round of the VW Cup this season and will drive the S2000 Civic previously raced by Gilham and American Robb Holland.
"We're hoping for a full campaign in 2013 so we're looking for a good result at Rockingham," said the 20-year-old Briton, who confirmed that the deal is currently a one-off.
"I was at the point where I had to decide whether to continue with single-seaters or do tin-tops and we were quite successful with Tony, so that swayed it."
Fuller plans to test the car at Brands Hatch on Friday and Gilham believes he can be competitive.
"It's a big step up for him, but he's quick," said Gilham, who added that a 2012 return to the driving seat was unlikely for him.
"We're using our VW team as a stepping stone to the BTCC and he's the first."
