Sergio Camapna tops second practice for the Auto GP season-opener at Monza

Sergio Campana was quickest in the final Auto GP practice session before Friday afternoon's first qualifying session of the year at Monza

The 2011 Italian Formula 3 champion recorded a fastest time 1m37.115s for new team MLR71 while morning pace-setter Sergey Sirotkin was second quickest, 0.131s adrift in his Euronova entry.

Last year's GP3 title contender Adrian Quaife-Hobbs took third spot for Super Nova. The British driver is only currently signed to compete in this event, but confirmed that if he contests the full season, it would be with Super Nova.

Zele Racing's Giacomo Ricci was fourth on 1m37.722s, ahead of Victor Guerin in the second Super Nova entry. Facu Regalia was quickest of the Campos Racing drivers in sixth, just ahead of Euronova's Antonio Spavone - who showed a great improvement over his morning effort.

All teams have been imposed with a harder compound Kumho tyre for Monza. The option of a softer compound will be introduced at the next round. The series has also introduced a power boost button for 2012, which will be available eight times during each race, and unrestricted during qualifying.

"It is not so much a power gain but a variable rev limit," said Quaife-Hobbs. "You are on the limiter for half the straight without it. You put it on, and you gain something like seven tenths a lap. You don't have much chance without it. The race could be interesting; as it could be that everyone overtakes eight times. You receive a good extra 6mph with the power boost."
