Auto GP leader Kevin Ceccon relaxed about Mugello title decider
Auto GP points leader Kevin Ceccon says it is up to his rivals to take the risks in the series finale at Mugello this afternoon
Ceccon (Ombra Racing) has a nine-point cushion over nearest challenger Luca Filippi (Super Nova), and an 11-point advantage over DAMS driver Sergei Afansiev. Adrien Tambay (Campos Racing), 18 points adrift, is a rank outsider.
Only 18 points are available for the sprint-race win, with one further point awarded for fastest lap. Ceccon, who starts the reverse-grid race fifth, is not too concerned about his situation.
"A nine points gap to Luca and 11 on Sergei is not a lot but considering that overtaking has proven difficult here, it could be enough," said Ceccon. "I start in between them [Afanasiev lines up third and Filippi seventh] and we are all lined up on the right side of the grid, so the start could get interesting.
"I know that they are tough rivals and that they will give all, but I'm in the best position, risking is up to them."
Afanasiev, arguably Ceccon's biggest threat given his second-row start position, agreed that it will all come down to what happens when the lights go green.
"Obviously the start will be a key moment, and then in the first three laps I think we will understand who will be champion," said the Russian.
