Adrien Tambay takes first Auto GP pole at Mugello

Adrien Tambay topped qualifying at Mugello to become Auto GP's seventh polesitter in seven races

Tambay's decision to use two sets of new tyres paid dividends as he posted a 1m33.469s to finish almost two tenths clear of practice pacesetter Samuele Buttarelli (TP Formula).

"I'm really happy of this pole position, especially because I went often very close to it in these two seasons, but this is the first time I actually manage to clinch it," Tambay said.

"Having a good start will be really important because there's a lot of room from the grid to the first braking area, and people could attack easily if I don't get off the line properly".

Tambay's Campos Racing team-mate Adam Carroll ensured a solid session for the team as he finished third fastest, less than four hundredths of a second down the road from Buttarelli.

Carroll will share the second row with Luca Filippi (Supernova), who once again finished ahead of his title rivals Kevin Ceccon (Ombra) and Sergei Afanasiev (DAMS).

Points leader Ceccon will start on the outside of the third row alongside Fabio Onidi (Lazarus), with his nearest points rival Afanasiev one place further back in seventh.

Fabrizio Crestani (Lazarus), Rio Haryanto (DAMS) and Giovanni Venturini (Griffitz Durango) completed the top ten.
