Super Nova signs Michela Cerruti for 2014 Auto GP season

Reigning Auto GP champion team Super Nova has announced Michela Cerruti as its first driver signing of 2014

The agreement follows extensively testing conducted by the Milanese racer for Super Nova over the winter.

Former Superstars race winner Cerruti made her Auto GP debut mid-way through last season at the Nurburgring for Italian team MLR71. Cerruti also continued to compete in GT racing during the year.

"It is great to join Super Nova in Auto GP - I feel it was a lucky shot to begin the relationship at the end of last year in order to help decide on my direction for 2014," said Cerruti, who will now focus on single-seaters as her core programme.

"For a driver it is good to know that I have a winning team and car combination and we worked very well in the testing together.

"I know that I need to improve and the team has already showed that they will help to guide me."

Super Nova is aiming for its third consecutive Auto GP drivers' title, having claimed honours with GP2 race winner Adrian Quaife-Hobbs in 2012 and Vittorio Ghirelli last year.

Team manager John Sears added: "We are excited to be part of her development and believe that she has the ability and capacity to compete at the front of the Auto GP field.

"We will manage her growth step by step but I believe that scoring podiums is certainly a realistic target for this season."
