The session was almost free of incident despite taking place in on-off rain, which ultimately meant that the damp track conditions did not change much during the 45 minutes.

Tamas Pal Kiss (Virtuosi UK) held fastest time for much of the session with his lap of 1m32.951s, before points leader Kimiya Sato took three tenths off that with eleven minutes to go.

Sato remained at the top of the timing screens until Giovesi put in his lap at the very end of the session, going two tenths quicker than the Japanese Euronova Racing driver a couple of minutes before the chequered flag.

Sato has a healthy points lead over Kiss and could potentially seal the championship this weekend. Kiss ended up third quickest behind Giovesi and Sato, and ahead of local favourite Markus Pommer.

Francesco Dracone, who returns to Super Nova International this weekend, was 10th fastest.
