Grosjean takes maiden Auto GP win

Romain Grosjean took a maiden win in the Auto GP Series at Spa having dominated practice and qualifying on his debut for the DAMS team

The French former Renault Formula 1 driver led from the start and defended his advantage from Luca Filippi until the pitstops. Grosjean's crew did a quicker job than that of Euronova, and afterwards he extended his lead to win comfortably.

"In the first laps I tried to control the race, because you never know what can happen," said Grosjean. "I started to push after the pit stop, even if it wasn't easy because I lost the steering dashboard, so I had no information.

"Anyway the car was good, and as the track changed a bit from yesterday we already know what changes must be made for Race Two."

Behind Fillipi was Giorgio Pantano - taking his first podium of the season, having passed Jan Charouz on track for fourth. Jonny Reid also got by the Czech driver, but only after the pair had gone to side-to-side down to Eau Rouge in a previous encounter for the position.

Eduardo Piscopo finished sixth ahead of Julian Leal. Carlos Iaconelli took the final point for eighth despite starting from the back of the grid.
