Filippi claims Auto GP pole at Imola
Luca Filippi stormed to pole position for race one of the second Auto GP event at Imola
The Italian driver had also been quickest in Friday's practice sessions, and proved impossible to catch in qualifying, taking his Euronova car to pole with a 1m31.742s lap.
Adrien Tambay (Charouz-Gravity) was his nearest rival, earning a poignant front row start at the track where his father Patrick famously won the 1983 San Marino Grand Prix. The Formula 3 convert was 0.258 seconds off ex-GP2 man Filippi's pace.
Former GP2 champion Giorgio Pantano (Super Nova) took third, ahead of DAMS' Duncan Tappy and series newcomer Stefano Coletti (Charouz-Gravity).
Brno polesitter Jonny Reid could only manage ninth this time in the second Super Nova car.
