Auto GP Monza: Vittorio Ghirelli heads second practice at Monza
Formula Renault 3.5 refugee Vittorio Ghirelli set the fastest time in the final Auto GP free practice session ahead of qualifying at Monza on Friday afternoon
The Italian Super Nova racer recorded a best lap of 1m36.428s, eclipsing German Formula 3 graduate Kimiya Sato by just 0.098s.
Ghirelli's effort improved on Robert Visoiu's pacesetting lap from the opening session by over a second.
Visoiu ended practice two in fourth place, behind Sato's Euronova team-mate Yoshitaka Kuroda.
Formula 1 exile Narain Karthikeyan's acclimatisation to the series continued. The Indian secured fifth spot after producing a lap over a second faster than his first acquaintance with Auto GP on Friday morning.
Former Euronova and Ombra racer Antonio Spavone recovered from driveshaft issues in the opening session to complete the top six.
MLR71 took to the track after sitting out the opening session. After patiently waiting for the completion of his car's update kit, Giacomo Ricci was 13th, one position ahead of team owner Michele la Rosa.
