Auto GP Marrakech: Vittorio Ghirelli penalised for illegal overtake
Super Nova racer Vittorio Ghirelli has received a two-second post-race penalty for passing Andrea Roda under yellow flags in the opening Auto GP race in Marrakech
As a result of the penalty the Italian drops from seventh to ninth place in the results, meaning he loses his front-row starting spot for race two on the reversed grid.
Roda moves up to seventh while British racer Luciano Bacheta inherits eighth, which also gives him pole for Sunday's race.
Meanwhile rival team Euronova Racing has appealed against a penalty levelled at third-placed finisher Kimiya Sato for pitting on the last lap.
The result will stand until a final decision is made by the Moroccan federation.
Auto GP sporting regulations state last-lap pitstops contravene championship rules, but Euronova is understood to have argued Sato pitted on race winner Sergio Campana's last lap, rather than his own.
