Ed Carpenter Racing to run Chevrolet engines in IndyCar Series

Ed CarpenterEd Carpenter has secured a Chevrolet engine deal for his new IndyCar team.

Carpenter, who took his first race win in the series with Sarah Fisher Racing at Kentucky last year, has established his own one-car squad for the 2012 season. Ed Carpenter Racing will be run in collaboration with veteran team boss Derrick Walker.

Chevrolet's vice president of performance vehicles and motorsport Jim Campbell said: "Ed and his family have a long history with Chevrolet. Ed is a winning driver and we hope he'll put the new Chevrolet engine back in victory lane this year. We are anxious to see Ed's new car on the track with our new partnership."

Carpenter's team joins Andretti Autosport, KV Racing Technology, Panther Racing and Team Penske as a confirmed Chevrolet squad for 2012. The returning American firm will be up against long-time sole IndyCar supplier Honda and newcomer Lotus as the series reopens engine competition under its new technical rules.
