Alex MacDowall will test for Motorbase Performance at Brands Hatch on Wednesday in a bid to decide whether to race in the British or World Touring Car Championship this year. MacDowall, 21, raced for the works Chevrolet squad in last year's BTCC, but following the withdrawal of the RML-run team a week ago, he will try out one of Motorbase's Ford Focus STs at the Kent circuit. Should he opt against racing for David Bartrum's team this year, MacDowall has an option to remain with RML, but to move up to the WTCC in one of its Cruzes. "That is when the decision will be made," he told AUTOSPORT. "The drive with Motorbase is really the only option available to me in BTCC now for this season, so it's all down to Wednesday whether I will remain in the championship." "The other option is to join RML in the WTCC, in their fourth car." MacDowall confirmed his focus was remaining in top-level tin-tops. "The main thing is, I don't want to be sat around scratching my head for nine months," he added. "I wouldn't say BTCC is the better option, but it is the same price to enter the WTCC, as it is to do 30 races in BTCC."
