Alex Gurney leads the Daytona 24 Hours for GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing at the end of the opening hour of the race.
Polesitter Ryan Dalziel had pulled out a commanding advantage over the rest of the pack during the first stint, but his Starworks co-driver Enzo Potolicchio lost ground soon after taking over, being passed for the lead by Gurney on the 31st lap. Potolicchio has now fallen back to fourth.
Michael Shank Racing's Ozz Negri Jr is a close second, completing the hour right on Gurney's tail, with the Ganassi cars of Scott Dixon and Scott Pruett sandwiching the Starworks entry in third and fifth.
The SunTrust Corvette that Max Angelelli started from the front row has already encountered engine problems.
