Andrea Caldarelli joins Toyota's junior programme

 Toyota has signed single-seater racer Andrea Caldarelli to its sportscar squad as a junior driver for the 2012 season.
The Italian, a former member of the Toyota Young Driver Programme (TDP) when the manufacturer competed in Formula 1, will attend rounds of the World Endurance Championship and take part in simulator work to get used to endurance racing.
"I am really pleased to be joining Toyota Racing as the junior driver and I expect to gain a lot of invaluable experience," said the 21-year-old, who abandoned a GP3 title tilt early last season to race in Formula Nippon and strengthen his ties to the Japanese manufacturer.
"I know some of the guys in the team having been part of the TDP scheme for several years so it will be fun to work together again.
"For a young driver like myself to work as part of such a professional and experienced team will be a big benefit and I am looking forward to learning a lot more about the challenge of endurance racing."
Caldarelli was a part of the TDP line-up from 2007-2009, during which time he finished third in the Formula Renault Eurocup and 14th in the F3 Euro Series.
