Mehdi Bennani will stay with the Proteam BMW World Touring Car squad for 2012.
The 28-year-old Moroccan joined Proteam last year, finishing seventh in the Yokohama Trophy. His best result came in Macau, when he finished sixth in the season finale.
Bennani has competed in the WTCC since 2009, when he contested the Moroccan and European rounds in an Exagon-run SEAT Leon.
Team principal Marco Guiducci said he hoped Bennani could improve upon last year's showing, while also revealing the team had signed Marco Calovolo, who has engineered James Thompson in recent seasons, to the technical staff.
"We are very pleased to keep Mehdi in the team and we expect a further improvement in his performance after the positive season last year," Guiducci said.
"We have also confirmed our technical staff directed by engineer Marco Calovolo."
Proteam is set to test its BMW 320 for the first time in February, and is expected to announce its second driver shortly.
