Chevrolet has had the weight of its Cruze model increased by 30kg for this year's World Touring Car Championship, following its domination of the 2011 series. The Cruze 1.6T, in which Yvan Muller, Rob Huff and Alain Menu secured the top three positions in last year's championship - and won all but two of the races – will now increase in weight from 1150 to 1180kg. This also applies to non-works 1.6Ts, such as those run by the Bamboo-Engineering squad in 2011. The other front-wheel drive cars that took part in the 2011 WTCC; the Cruze LT (the 2000cc, non-turbocharged version), Chevrolet Lacetti, SEAT Leon TDI and 1.6T, plus the Volvo C30, will all start the year on 1150kg. The rear-wheel drive BMW 320 TC will be slightly higher at 1160kg, although this represents a 10kg drop on its weight at the end of last year. No weights have been issued for the Ford Focus, which will be run by Arena Motorsport this year. The FIA Touring Car Commission confirmed that this will be done at a later date.
