Romain Grosjean will be drafted in for some Friday running by Renault later this season, AUTOSPORT can reveal, marking his return to the Formula 1 cockpit for the first time since 2009.
The Frenchman last raced in F1 two years ago but, after returning to GP2 and clinching this year's title, he will be given another opportunity to show what he can do in Abu Dhabi and Brazil next month.
It is understood that Grosjean will replace Bruno Senna for practice one in Abu Dhabi, and then take over Vitaly Petrov's cockpit for the first session in Brazil.
Grosjean is a contender for a race seat at Renault next season, but his chances of landing the seat depend on the fate of the recovering Robert Kubica.
The team is hoping to make a decision in the next few weeks about whether or not Kubica will be fit enough to return for the start of the 2012 campaign.
