IndyCar finale red-flagged after 13-car accident

The final round of the IndyCar Series has been red flagged at Las Vegas following a horrendous 15-car pile-up after 12 laps.

The crash was triggered when Wade Cunnigham's Sam Schmidt Racing car clipped James Hinchcliffe's Newman/Haas machine on the run into Turn 1. Saavedra got loose in Turn 2, and this triggered further collisions, with Will Power's Penske car was one of many to fly high into the air after being left with nowhere to go.

Many of the cars caught fire during the crash, including Jay Howard's Rahal-run car, which burnt fiercely, and Power's championship contending machine.

Most concern centres on the condition of Dan Wheldon, whose Sam Schmidt-run car suffered a huge amount of damage and was covered up by course workers at the scene.
