Al Unser Jr has been suspended from his role with the IndyCar Series after being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in Albuquerque.
The double CART Indycar champion had been working with the championship as a driver coach and assisting in race control.
"INDYCAR is aware of the charges and will not be commenting at this time," said a statement from the series. "Al Unser Jr has been suspended indefinitely and relieved of his duties in race control, pending further investigation."
The incident is the third time Unser, who sought treatment for alcohol problems towards the end of his racing career, has been arrested since 2002.
