Rosberg receives Bandini Trophy

Nico Rosberg with the Bandini TrophyMercedes' Nico Rosberg was presented with the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy for 2011 in a ceremony in Italy on Saturday night.

The trophy is awarded annually to a driver who has impressed not only with their speed and on-track achievements, but their character and approach to the sport. It is named in honour of 1960s Formula 1 and sportscar racer Bandini, who died in an accident at the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix.

"It's a special thing to get this trophy, because it's not only for the sporting achievement, but also the mentality and approach, that they award you with this," said Rosberg.

"That's very nice of them. The history of this trophy is very big, and it's a very well known price not only in Italy but internationally. That's great and I'm very honoured."

As part of the ceremony, Rosberg drove the 12 miles from Faenza to Brisighella along public roads in a Mercedes DTM car.

"Driving the DTM through the country roads with the traffic coming from the front and a police car moving the traffic away was incredible," he said. "And spectators all along the way. I drove for quite a long time and it was great."
