Bruno Mendez will not compete in round two of the British Formula 3 championship at Oulton Park this weekend and is unlikely to return to the series later in the season.
The Spaniard entered the series in a late deal with Ryan Sharp's Hitech Racing squad, but struggled on his debut at Monza last weekend.
The 2009 European F3 Open champion crashed on the second lap of practice at the Italian Grand Prix venue and qualified 18th fastest of the 21 drivers. He finished 10th in a crash-affected first race, before taking 14th in race two and 18th in race three.
Team principal Sharp said: "Results didn't go as planned at Monza on a circuit he knew. Oulton Park is probably the most challenging circuit on the calendar and it's not realistic to expect somebody to come here, having never been here before, and challenge [at the front] with only two 55-minute test sessions.
"We decided to concentrate on the three drivers we're running all year. It's a possibility Bruno will come back later in the year, but it's very slight."
