Audi has completed the first test of what it referred to as the 'evolution 2' version of its new R18 Le Mans car.
The closed-cockpit machine ran at Sebring this week following the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup-opening 12 Hours last weekend. All 10 works Audi drivers took part in the test, which also featured an old-style R15 TDI for comparison purposes.
An Audi statement said the revised car had been tried on a proving ground in Florida at the weekend before getting four days of running at the famous sportscar circuit.
"The 'Evolution 2' Audi R18 is the result of the findings of previous test drives and wind tunnel testing, with a particular focus on improved aerodynamic efficiency and cooling of the interior of its V6 TDI engine," said the statement.
The R18 will make its next public appearance at the official Le Mans test day on 24 April, before racing for the first time in the Spa ILMC/Le Mans Series event on 7 May.
