Team Green gear up for Miami

Barry Green, boss of the Team KOOL Green Champ Car outfit believes his team has moved up a level from 1999, and should challenge even more strongly for the CART title than it did last year

"I'm really proud of the way everyone on Team KOOL Green has handled the off-season," he said. "I'm not just talking about our drivers, who obviously want to be champions, but our engineers, mechanics and shop-based people all have stepped it up another notch. They know we were close last year, and they don't want to be denied this time."

Last season, Dario Franchitti was champion Juan Montoya's chief rival and actually finished level with the Colombian on points - though he lost the title on having fewer wins than Montoya.

Franchitti was recently cleared to race after breaking his pelvis in a testing accident at the scene of the first race, the Miami Grand Prix. Despite this potential setback, the Scot claims he will not be disadvantaged: "I've stayed in pretty good shape in spite of my injuries," claimed the 26-year-old.

"I'm not expecting to have any unusual physical difficulties. And because I've stayed so focused on doing everything I can to be ready to race at Homestead, I think I've kept my mind sharp. It's amazing how focused you can get on some thing you want so bad."
