Mouton appointed WRC manager

Michele MoutonRally legend and motorsport's most successful ever female driver Michele Mouton has taken on the role of manager in the World Rally Championship.

Mouton, who won four rounds of the WRC, made a regular return to the series last season, fronting a working group on the future development of rallying - and reporting to FIA president Jean Todt.

This is Mouton's first formal role in the WRC, although she is already known in the corridors of power for her position as president of the FIA's Women and Motor Sport Commission.

Mouton, who takes the position as the FIA's WRC manager, will be responsible for the co-ordination of all aspects of the championship, including safety, regulations and the calendar.

Mouton will represent the sport's governing body on the majority of WRC events, working in close collaboration with the manufacturers, promoters and event organisers.

Former factory Audi driver Mouton said: "This is a very exciting and challenging opportunity, especially at a time when President Todt wants to significantly increase the profile of the sport and take it to new heights. I am looking forward to working with all the WRC stakeholders; together I believe we can bring new dynamism to our spectacular sport."
