Forsythe pulls team out of series
Forsythe Championship Racing has pulled out of this season's CART championship
The team, run as a satellite operation of the Players/Forsythe squad, was to be the Swift marque's only representative in this year's series.
The decision of Forsythe to withdraw the team was reported to be in connection with a dispute over the number of franchises in CART that can be held within one team.
Gerry Forsythe currently holds two franchises as a result of his stake in the Player's/Forsythe outfit, but he is reported to have been pushing for a third.
The team, formerly the Tasman operation, had been struggling on the track recently, with the Swift chassis falling below expectations. Though popular at the beginning of 1999, the Swift was only effective when run by the Newman-Haas team, and non-works entrants struggled to set the cars up.
Shortly after the decision to switch from Reynard to Swift, former team owner and engineer Steve Horne left the outfit.
Newman Haas switched back to Lolas for the 2000 season, with Forsythe signed up as works - and sole - runners of the American built chassis.
The team will retain its driver Bryan Herta in order to continue testing the Swift over 2000, with a view to returning in 2001.
"We're very disappointed to see the team withdraw and hope to see them back in CART competition at the earliest stage," said CART cheif executive officer Andrew Craig.
