Peugeot defends Monte team orders

Stephane Sarrazin, Peugeot, Monte Carlo 2011Peugeot Sport director Olivier Quesnel has defended his decision to switch Stephane Sarrazin and Guy Wilks around in the Monte Carlo Rally results - handing the Englishman a podium finish.

Sarrazin had beaten Wilks to third on the stages, but then checked in late for the final control to drop to fourth place. Wilks will contest the whole Intercontinental Rally Challenge, while Sarrazin's outing was a one-off for Peugeot, so the team preferred to give Wilks the extra points.

"It was my decision," said Quesnel. "It makes sense when Guy Wilks is doing all of the championship."

Wilks said he had not talked to the team about the decision and added that it was not the way he wanted to score his first podium for the Peugeot team.

"It's never the way a driver wants to do it," said Wilks. "What can you say? It was a decision which was out of my hands. All I can do is my job, driving the car and leave the rest to the team and to the manufacturer."
