Seven drivers hit with grid penalties

James CaladoBritish Formula 3 championship runner-up James Calado was among seven drivers who have been handed five-place grid penalties at the Macau Grand Prix for breaching yellow flag regulations in first qualifying.

The final minutes of the session were run with yellow flag conditions after Carlin's Jazeman Jaafar crashed into the barriers at R Bend and his car could not be retrieved.

A number of drivers were deemed to have either not slowed down sufficiently under the yellows, or to have overtaken when the flags were out - and they were all called to see the Macau GP stewards on Thursday evening.

Calado, who provisionally qualified an impressive eighth on his first appearance in Macau, will now suffer a five-place grid penalty for Saturday's qualifying race along with several other drivers further down the order.

They include Yuhi Sekiguchi, Carlos Munoz, Will Buller, Lucas Foresti, Oliver Webb, and Hideki Yamauchi.

Munoz was also excluded from the results of the first qualifying session because he ignored the red lights at the pitlane entrance that required him to stop at the weigh bridge during the session.
