Adrian Sutil has been fined $10,000 for driving his damaged Force India car back into the pits during practice in Singapore.
The Force India driver damaged the left front wishbone of his car when he took off after hitting the kerbs of the Marina Bay circuit's chicane.
Sutil drove back to the pits with no steering on the left front tyre.
He was later fined by the stewards for breaching article 30.14 of the sporting rules.
"The driver, having experienced serious mechanical difficulties, did not leave the track as soon as it was safe to do so, and this was also potentially dangerous to spectators, marshals and other drivers," a statement by the stewards said.
