Moraes released after hospital checks

Mario Moraes crashes at MotegiMario Moraes has been released from hospital uninjured following his crash in today's IndyCar Series race at Motegi.

The KV Racing driver made hard rearward contact with the Turn 2 wall in the incident on lap 66. He remained conscious throughout, but immediately beckoned for medical assistance when the car came to a halt.

After being extracted from the car, Moraes was taken to Saiseikai Hospital in Mito for checks to ensure he had not sustained any back injuries. He was later given a clean bill of health and released.

Moraes had been running 17th when the crash - which replays suggested was due to an issue at the rear of the car - occurred, having earlier got up to 13th from 20th on the grid. His KV team-mates Takuma Sato and EJ Viso went on to finish 12th and 15th.
