Guerrieri leads second FR3.5 session

Esteban Guerrieri set a fastest time of 1m46.084s to top the second Formula Renault 3.5 free practice session at Silverstone

Ahead of tomorrow's low-aero configuration race, the Argentinean ISR racer enjoyed a three tenths of a second advantage over Daniel Ricciardo, who was running the opposite set-up for his best time.

"I was on high downforce when I did the time, and then ran a low downforce setting at the end," said 2009 British Formula 3 champion Ricciardo. "The circuit's okay, apart from the big bump at Turn 11. So I'd say things are pretty much going to plan, but Guerrieri is still hanging around so we've got to keep pushing."

Both men are out to claw back ground on points leader Mikhail Aleshin in order to maintain their championship hopes. The Russian had electrical and throttle trouble this morning, languishing in 18th place, but recovered to eighth in the afternoon.

"I had to sit out nearly the whole of the first practice," said Aleshin, "the only laps that I did were just to do checks, not pushing. For sure it won't help us, but this is a technical sport and these things happen. Hopefully, things are better now."

Fortec's Jon Lancaster also ran low downforce on his way to third fastest, edging out Brendon Hartley by 0.033s. Kiwi Hartley familiarised himself swiftly with his new P1 Motorsport team.

"It is going well," said Hartley. "There is not as big a difference between the high and low downforce as I was expecting. The high is not as quick as I thought."

Draco's Nathanael Berthon ended the afternoon fifth, ahead of Ferrari Academy member Daniel Zampieri.
