Mortara takes Nurburgring pole

Formula 3 Euro Series championship leader Edoardo Mortara narrowly took his third pole position of the season for the first race this weekend at the Nurburgring

The Signature driver edged ART's Valtteri Bottas by just 0.017 seconds to take the top spot, while third-placed Laurens Vanthoor (Signature) was also just inside one tenth of a second of pole.

With Mucke's Roberto Merhi next up in fourth, three teams will be represented on the first two rows of the grid.

Mortara's closest rival in the championship, his Signature team-mate Marco Wittmann, could only manage fifth position. The German's second place in the standings could be under threat this weekend, as he is only seven points ahead of front row starter Bottas.

Alexander Sims completed the top six for ART, while Antonio Felix da Costa and Daniel Juncadella fill out the fourth row.

The Euro Series welcomes two returnees this weekend in the form of Mika Maki and Christopher Zanella. The Motopark pair brought up the rear of the field, and will share the seventh row of the grid.
