Irvine happy with sixth

Eddie Irvine handed Jaguar a morale-boosting sixth place on the grid for Sunday's race at Interlagos while teammate Johnny Herbert languished in 17th

Just as in Australia a fortnight ago Irvine was the man to keep the Jaguar name towards the front of the grid despite a series of distracting interruptions.

"If I keep on qualifying in the top six or seven I will be more than happy," he said.

"Some of the guys who were faster than me this morning seemed to lose time in qualfying - which I don't really understand.

"The handling of the car has not been sorted out and for some reason the set-up is not as good as it was in Australia but I can't deny I'm pleased to be where I am.

"As for the race - who knows."

Herbert was less than pleased to be 11 places behind his teammate and eight-tenths of a second slower when the team appears to have resolved the oil surge problems.

"I didn't improve in the mid-section of the lap for some reason and I'm losing time to Eddie under braking," he said.
