Eng dominant in final qualifying

Philipp Eng will start tomorrow's Formula 2 race at Marrakech from pole position after blitzing his rivals in qualifying on Saturday afternoon

The street circuit has been getting faster with every session as more rubber is laid down, with times today around two seconds faster than the best set on Friday.

But Eng hooked up a sensational 1m30.1s lap - more than half a second faster than anyone else - to earn pole.

Race one winner Dean Stoneman's best effort late on was enough to secure a place on the front row, but he didn't come close to Eng - who was an incredible four tenths of a second quicker than anyone else in the second sector of the lap.

The next seven qualifers were all eager to make up for disappointment in the day's earlier race when they all either retired or had their races compromised. Johan Jokinen qualified third after crashing out of race one, alongside Will Bratt who was taken out.

Kazim Vasiliauskas and Mihai Marinescu will share the third row - following contact and a technical failure each - ahead of Jack Clarke and Nicola de Marco who tangled on the first lap this morning. Jolyon Palmer had a new engine fitted after his first race retirement and qualified ninth this afternoon.

Kelvin Snoeks followed up the first podium finish of his racing career this morning with a top 10 grid slot for tomorrow's race.
