SEAT facing race against time
SEAT is facing a race against time to get Toni Gardemeister to the start line of the Safari Rally.
The talented young Finn crashed his car in testing on Wednesday and it will need extensive repairs if it to be ready for tommorrow's scrutineering session and the start on Friday.
The accident happened when Gardemeister flew over a jump and landed the Cordoba WRC E2 hard on its nose, smashing the front of the car and damaging the engine which will need to be replaced overnight.
Co-driver Paavo Lukander suffered a neck injury in the crash.
He was taken to hospital in Nairobi and released after checks but the team must decide if he is fit to tackle the toughest event of the season.
Gardemeister uses pace notes in his native tongue but there are options available to SEAT should Lukander be declared unfit to start.
The most likely choice would be to put former co-driver Voitto Silander (in Kenya to do gravel note work for SEAT) into the car for this event.
