Andros: Muller crashes out on first lap
"That's racing," Yvan Muller said after all three Opel cars crashed out on the first lap of the Elite final of the Super Final of the 1999/2000 Andros Trophy.
Caught out by a deep step in the ice, Muller, Jean-Philippe Dayraut and James Ruffier all suffered broken wheels, with Ruffier's Tigra being the worst damaged, having jumped in the air and hit the concrete wall.
The race was red-flagged, and an attempt was made to get the cars back on the track. However, this soon proved impossible, and the final restarted with only three participants: Marcel Tarres, Emmanuel Collard and Pierre Colard.
While Colard suffered mechanical problems and pulled over, Tarres and Collard finished the race to take the first two places on the podium, with Colard classified third.
As for the Promotion final, the class champion Jean-Noël Lanctuit took the victory ahead of a delighted Patricia Bertapelle, with Christophe Balas third despite a broken wheel.
Stephane Peterhansel finished twice on the podium, with a second place in the Formula France final behind Jean-Luc Schlesser, and third in the Pilot Bike race behind the Roblin brothers.
