Team Rahal pair fastest in Homestead
Team Rahal duo Max Papis and Kenny Brack led the way on the opening day of Spring Training at Homestead
Brack, who will be making his CART race debut next month, was quickest in the morning session, while Papis lapped half a second faster in the afternoon to top the time sheets.
Patrick Carpentier continued the strong showing of the Ford-powered cars with the third fastest time, while Newman-Haas driver Michael Andretti was fifth quickest overall.
Champion Juan Montoya showed the promise of Ganassi's all-new Lola-Toyota package with fifth quickest time.
The day ended 15 minutes early when Dario Franchitti crashed his Team Green Reynard into the wall at Turn Three.
The Scot was taken to the medical centre for examination.
In all 26 cars ran on the first day of Spring Training, many of the teams concentrating on running in new equipment rather than aiming for a time.
Testing continues on Thursday.
