Sebastian Vettel's world championship chances suffered a blow in qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix when he failed to make it past the first session.
The Red Bull Racing driver, whose sights were set on victory this weekend to keep his title hopes alive, struggled to find speed he needed in the atrocious wet conditions at Interlagos.
With heavy rain seeing track conditions deteriorate over the 20-minute session, Vettel could manage no better than the 16th fastest time - meaning he joined the five drivers eliminated.
With both Brawn GP drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello making it through to the second part of qualifying, Vettel's title hopes now appear to be all but over.
McLaren duo Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen also failed to make it through to Q2.
