Solberg tests Citroen C4 WRC

Petter Solberg has confirmed that he has tested a Citroen C4 WRC for the first time.

The 2003 world champion, who has been using a Xsara WRC this season, drove the C4 WRC in the south of France on Tuesday.

"I did drive it," said Solberg. "I did 170 kilometers or something like that. We had a good day, but that's all I want to say for now. I have to say it was a nice surprise!"

Solberg is known to be looking for a change of car for the final round of this year's World Rally Championship, with a Ford Focus RS WRC his other option for Rally Great Britain.

The Norwegian tested a 2007-specification C4 WRC, but if he completed a deal to use a PH Sport-run car in Wales, it is believed it would be a 2008 car - the same as the C4s used by the Citroen Junior Team.

Solberg has all but ruled out an entry on the Catalunya Rally, the penultimate round of this year's WRC. He is also missing the next round of the series in Australia.

"Tuesday has shown me there's not much point in driving the Xsara again," he said. "I would be prepared to miss Spain to get the right deal for Britain."
