Massa: FIA should allow rookies to test

Felipe Massa believes the FIA should allow a change to Formula 1 testing restrictions to allow young rookies the chance to get mileage under their belt away from a race weekend

After the controversy caused by Jaime Alguersuari's promotion to Scuderia Toro Rosso, where the Spaniard was promoted to an F1 race seat without having completed a proper test, Massa thinks that lessons can be learned.

And although he was highly critical of the move to draft Alguersuari into Toro Rosso, Massa thinks that action should come from the governing body.

"I feel that for me it is not fair to bring a guy to the first race like that," said Massa. "For me, the FIA should have a different solution for this kind of thing. It would have been better for him to have had a test last week.

"In this case, the FIA should allow it, and I think from the team point of view it was a bit of a risk to bring a guy who has never driven an F1 car straight away to a race weekend."

Massa also clarified that his criticisms of the decision to hand Alguersuari his debut were not aimed at the Spaniard - but at the system.

"I was not talking about him, because any driver in his position would have done the same including myself. He did a very good job [in practice]."
