Andersen takes IFM win at Valencia

Series veteran Kasper Andersen scored his third career International Formula Master victory in today's reverse grid race at Valencia

The 24-year-old Dane made a lightning start from third on the grid and snatched the lead with a great move down the inside of polesitter Nicolas Maulini into Turn 1.

Andersen was then given the opportunity to escape up front while a queue formed behind Maulini. The Swiss driver clung onto second for half a dozen laps before relenting, and by then Andersen had a three-second cushion.

Pal Varhaug, Josef Kral and Sergei Afanasiev then set about their own battle for second, which allowed Andersen a free run to victory.

Kral spent the majority of the race trying to find a way around Varhaug and was granted an opportunity when Varhaug slipped up. Kral tried to run alongside the Jenzer Motorsport car but he was squeezed off the track, bounced across the gravel and slipped back to fourth.

Afanasiev took up the challenge for second from there on, but Varhaug was able to defend his place comfortably.

Vladimir Arabadzhiev finished fifth, ahead of race one winner Fabio Leimer who was stuck behind the struggling Maulini until the closing laps.
