Meeke: Monte crash most scary

Kris Meeke has described the crash that forced him to retire from the Monte Carlo Rally last week as the 'most frightening' of his career

The Northern Irishman was in fourth position on the final leg of the event when his Peugeot UK 207 skidded off the road on melting snow. The car then struck a bridge support and rolled five times.

"It was a frightening experience, the worst I've ever had," said Meeke. "Normally you get a split second to try and catch the car but I just had 300 metres when the car was on the air not knowing what was going to happen."

The 29-year-old and his Irish co-driver Paul Nagle escaped serious injury in the crash, although Meeke reported he was still suffering from a minor neck strain in the days after the accident.

"I'm just so thankful I was wearing a HANS safety device and had such a strong seat and car around me, otherwise it could have been a lot worse," Meeke added.

Despite the Kronos Racing-run car being badly damaged in the crash, Meeke said his participation in the next round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, the Rally de Curitiba in Brazil next month, was not in any doubt.

"The decision has not been taken whether my car can be fixed but we've got some contingency plans in place to use another car if we need to," Meeke said. "But there won't be a problem."
